Azalea – Paintings 2017

My hometown is nicknamed the Azalea city! So, I adventured out to take some floral photos and came across these gorgeous Azaleas! In this video, I paint one and give you a commentary on my process. I’m new at this sort of thing, so please go easy on me! I slip up in places and mispronounce a couple things but hey, that’s life! If you like the voice over, please let me know in the comments below! And don’t forget to subscribe and leave a like!!

Alabama Pitcher Plant ~ Paintings 2017

Alabama Pitcher Plant ~ Paintings 2017

I tasked myself to knock out a painting for the upcoming Baykeepers annual Art of the Bay show at The Mobile Arts Council in Mobile, AL. We were given a variety of things to choose from relating to the Mobile Bay Watershed. I chose the Alabama Pitcher Plant! What a phenomenal piece of nature. I really enjoyed painting these and studying them. The detailing was taxing at time but well worth the end result. I’m happy that I decided to film the painting of it as I think it’s fun to watch. I hope you also find it fun and interesting to watch! Thanks for looking!

No. 24 – Sketches 2017

This was a fun project that I did the a local Fundraiser called Flow Initiative. I intended to do an oil painting of this image however, due to time restraints and deadlines, I opted for a charcoal drawing. And I really like the end result. I love the textures given off from the wood and have found myself inspired to do more drawings on wood panels. The skateboard was primed with 3 layers of Acrylic Gesso, sanded in between and after final. Then once the drawing was completed, the entire surface of the drawing was covered in 2 layers of polyurethane. I put this video together for some fun and I hope you enjoy it!

No. 23 – Commissioned Portrait – Sketches 2017

No. 23 – Commissioned Portrait – Sketches 2017

I was commissioned to sketch a portrait of a friend’s mother from a single photograph she provided. I don’t normally like to draw teeth or smiles but I took on the challenge and I’m so happy with the end result and the client was as well. I was asked to just “do my thing” and sketch her however I’d like (which I have to say is pretty awesome). I wanted to maintain most of the integrity of the image and honor her mother’s memory but also make it a unique drawing with some sketching flair. I’m so pleased with the end result! Thanks for watching!
