No. 24 – Sketches 2017

This was a fun project that I did the a local Fundraiser called Flow Initiative. I intended to do an oil painting of this image however, due to time restraints and deadlines, I opted for a charcoal drawing. And I really like the end result. I love the textures given off from the wood and have found myself inspired to do more drawings on wood panels. The skateboard was primed with 3 layers of Acrylic Gesso, sanded in between and after final. Then once the drawing was completed, the entire surface of the drawing was covered in 2 layers of polyurethane. I put this video together for some fun and I hope you enjoy it!

No. 23 – Commissioned Portrait – Sketches 2017

I was commissioned to sketch a portrait of a friend’s mother from a single photograph she provided. I don’t normally like to draw teeth or smiles but I took on the challenge and I’m so happy with the end result and the client was as well. I was asked to just “do my thing” and sketch her however I’d like (which I have to say is pretty awesome). I wanted to maintain most of the integrity of the image and honor her mother’s memory but also make it a unique drawing with some sketching flair. I’m so pleased with the end result! Thanks for watching!

I just wanted to get out a sketch last night so I chose a random image from my resource folder. She turned out more square jawed then I wanted as her proportions are slightly off. Overall though, I like it and am glad I pushed myself to get it done. Thanks for watching!

So, I’m inspired to try to some new things. This sketch is done on watercolor paper primed with gesso. I’ve made texture with the gesso as I wasn’t happy with the straight lines that my brush was leaving. It works out though because, as I’ve done it in the past, I really like the results. I have fixed this drawing and plan to go back in and lay in oils. It’s my attempt to start a series of oil sketches. All of which will be available for purchase once they’re dried and ready. As always, thanks for watching and if you enjoyed it, please leave a like and subscribe!
